brighter skin starts here

If your skin has been telling a story you would rather not keep telling — sun damage, dark spots, redness, uneven tone, broken capillaries — Lumecca IPL is one of the most effective ways to rewrite it.

Lumecca is a next-generation intense pulsed light treatment that goes significantly further than standard IPL technology. It delivers higher energy, more precise targeting, and faster results — often in just one to three sessions — with minimal downtime and no surgery required. The result is skin that looks clearer, brighter, and more even in a way that people notice without being able to pinpoint exactly why.

At Wasatch Integrative Medicine, Lumecca IPL is performed by trained medical professionals who assess your skin tone, concerns, and goals before recommending a treatment plan. We take the guesswork out of what your skin needs — and we have the tools to deliver it.

Lumecca IPL

overview

Lumecca IPL can treat

Lumecca targets red and brown pigment in the skin, making it highly effective for a wide range of common skin concerns:

Pigmentation: Sun spots, age spots, freckles, melasma, and general hyperpigmentation

Vascular Concerns: Redness, rosacea, broken capilaries, spider veins, and fascial flushing

Overall Tone & Texture: Dullness, uneven complexion, and early signs of aging

Common Treatment Areas: Face, neck, chest, hands, arms, and legs

*Note: Lumecca works best on light to medium skin tones. Deeper skin tones require careful evaluation to ensure safety and effectiveness. Your provider will assess your candidacy at your consultation.

key benefits

Visible Results, fast

Many patients notice improvement within days of their first session as the body begins clearing away treated pigment. Full results continue developing over two to four weeks.

two concerns addressed at once

Lumecca simultaneously targets both brown pigmentation and red vascular concerns, making it uniquely efficient for patients dealing with both.

comfortable treatment experience

Built-in cooling technology minimizes discomfort. Most patients describe the sensation as a brief warm snap — tolerable and quick.

fewer sessions than you might expect

Most patients achieve excellent results in just one to three treatments — significantly fewer than many other skin tone correction approaches.

collagen Stimulation Included

Beyond correcting existing damage, Lumecca stimulates collagen production in the treated area, supporting long-term improvements in skin texture and firmness.

minimal downtime

You may experience mild redness for a few hours after treatment. Pigmented spots may temporarily darken before they flake away — a sign the treatment is working. Most patients return to normal activities the same day.

Session Details

Lumecca delivers concentrated pulses of broad-spectrum light energy into the skin. The light is selectively absorbed by melanin in pigmented lesions and by oxyhemoglobin in vascular lesions — targeting the problem without affecting the surrounding tissue.

Once absorbed, the light energy converts to heat, breaking down the unwanted pigment or collapsing the small blood vessels responsible for redness. The body then naturally clears away the treated cells over the following days and weeks, revealing clearer, more even skin underneath.

At the same time, the light energy stimulates fibroblast activity and collagen production in the deeper layers of the skin — improving texture and firmness as a secondary benefit that continues to develop over time.

Z

first visit

Before your first visit, book a Consult + First Visit appointment. Your provider will evaluate your skin tone and concerns, confirm your candidacy, and design a treatment plan tailored to your goals.

Arrive with clean skin free of makeup, lotion, or self-tanner.

Before each session, avoid sun exposure and tanning — including self-tanner — for at least two weeks prior to treatment. Do not use retinoids or exfoliating acids for several days beforehand. Come in with clean, unmedicated skin. The lighter your skin tone at the time of treatment, the safer and more effective the session will be.

Z

Treatment

During treatment, your provider will apply a cool gel to the treatment area and pass the Lumecca handpiece across the skin in overlapping pulses. You will feel a brief warm sensation with each pulse. Sessions typically take 15–45 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated.

Z

After your Treatment

After your session, mild redness is normal and typically resolves within a few hours. Pigmented spots — sun spots, freckles, age spots — will often darken over the next few days before naturally flaking away. This is the expected response, not a complication. Avoid sun exposure and apply broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher daily following your treatment. Do not pick at or exfoliate darkened spots — allow them to shed naturally.

Results begin to appear within a few days and continue improving over two to four weeks as your body clears treated pigment and produces new collagen. Most patients complete a series of one to three sessions, spaced approximately four weeks apart, for optimal results.

Lumecca ipl

frequently asked questions

What does ipl stand for, and how is it different from laser?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. Unlike a laser, which delivers a single concentrated wavelength of light, IPL delivers a broad spectrum of light wavelengths simultaneously. This allows it to target multiple concerns — both brown pigmentation and red vascular issues — in a single pass. Lumecca is a next-generation IPL device that delivers higher energy and more precise results than standard IPL systems, often in fewer sessions.

How is lumecca different from standard ipl treatments?

Lumecca is more powerful than most conventional IPL devices, delivering higher fluence — meaning more energy per pulse — with greater precision. This translates to faster, more noticeable results with fewer treatments. Patients who have had disappointing results from IPL elsewhere often find Lumecca to be a meaningfully different experience.

Will i look worse before i look better?

Briefly, possibly — and that is actually a good sign. Pigmented spots like sun spots and age spots typically darken in the days following treatment before naturally flaking away as your body clears the broken-down pigment. This darkening-before-clearing process, sometimes called the "pepper effect," is the expected and desired response. It resolves on its own within one to two weeks and should not be picked at or exfoliated.

How long do results last?

Results from Lumecca can last one to two years or longer with proper sun protection. Sun damage is cumulative, so consistent SPF use after your treatment series is the single most important thing you can do to preserve your results. Annual maintenance sessions are a popular option for patients who want to stay ahead of new sun damage each year.

Can Lumecca be combined with other treatments?

Yes, and it pairs exceptionally well with other Skin Vitality services. Lumecca addresses tone and pigmentation; Morpheus8 addresses texture, laxity, and deeper skin remodeling. Together they offer a comprehensive approach to skin rejuvenation. Your provider can help you sequence treatments appropriately and determine the right interval between sessions.

is lumecca safe for all skin tones?

Lumecca is most effective and safest for light to medium skin tones. Darker skin tones contain more melanin throughout the skin, which increases the risk of the light energy affecting surrounding tissue rather than just the targeted lesion. If you have a deeper complexion, your provider will discuss whether Lumecca is appropriate for you or whether an alternative treatment would be a better and safer fit.

How many treatments will i need?

Most patients see excellent results in one to three sessions, spaced approximately four weeks apart. A single session can produce noticeable improvement, but a series of three typically delivers the most comprehensive and lasting outcome. Your provider will recommend a plan based on the severity of your concerns and how your skin responds after the first session.

Is there anything i should avoid after treatment?

For at least one to two weeks following your session, avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanner. Do not use retinoids, exfoliating acids, or abrasive scrubs until the skin has fully settled. Wear broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every day. Do not pick at or attempt to exfoliate darkened pigment spots — allow them to resolve naturally.
